The Centre for Equality Research in Business (CERB)

www.unl.ac.uk/bus/cerb

The centre focuses on the investigation and analysis of issues of equality and diversity in business and other organisations.

In CERB we seek a critical review of business, trades union and management studies in order to explore the implications of an increasingly diverse labour force and markets for business, trades unions and consumer groups. Equality and diversity provide an important focus for business, trades union and management research, particularly in the light of the expansion of the European Union and the international movement of capital and labour, in an increasingly integrated global economy.

The centre has a membership drawn from a wide range of disciplines, researching a range of topics concerned with employment, gender, class, race, culture, disability and sexuality within the workplace and wider society. Current areas of research specialisation include equality and the labour market, management and entrepreneurship, organisational structure and culture, training and development, human resource management and industrial relations, trades union and corporate strategy, trade union organising and education, and legislative approaches to equality and diversity.

Recent work has included research for private sector organisations, local authorities, trades unions and professional bodies plus academic research funded by the Canadian High Commission, ESRC, European Social Fund and the Low Pay Commission.

CERB runs a regular research seminar series for staff and postgraduate students and welcomes MPhil/PhD applications. Two major research facilities include the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Library collection and the Women’s Library. The work of CERB also supports postgraduate courses such as the MA Employment Studies and Human Resource Management, MA Labour and Trade Union Studies, MA International Human Resource Management and Postgraduate Diploma of HRM.
