What’s the workshop about?
With live examples of research in virtual worlds, this workshop sets out to:
Who’s involved in its delivery?
This session will be a based on inputs and discussions about ethical dilemmas, facilitated by members of WLRI and FASS. In addition, we are very pleased to welcome Tom Buchanan, Reader in Psychology at the University of Westminster, who will contribute some of his experience and reflections to our discussion. Tom is a member of the Association of Internet Researchers and co-author of the BPS guide to internet research ethics as well a number of articles about disclosure and privacy in internet research. After early work on media violence and aggression, most of his research since the mid 1990s has revolved around how people behave 'on the Internet'. Much of Tom’s work has been methodological in nature, focusing on web-based psychological measurement, validity of online research techniques, and ethics of online data collection. Other projects have generally involved application of these techniques to substantive topics including online self-disclosure, self-presentation and privacy concerns.
Who is the workshop for?
