About the talk:

The presentation will discuss the experiences of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) workers following the introduction of the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Discrimination Regulations (2003). It will draw on evidence from 16 case study organizations in England from an HE-ESF research project carried out at London Metropolitan University, (Colgan, F., Creegan, C, McKearney, A. and Wright, T., 2006, Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Workers: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace,

) and will consider the impact of the Regulations on employer and trade union strategy and action in relation to sexual orientation, and employees’ perceptions of the impact of the regulations. It will also consider the intersection of sexual orientation, gender, race, disability and age in employees’ experiences of discrimination.


About the speaker:

Tessa Wright works part-time at Working Lives Research Institute and has carried out research over a number of years in the areas of equality and discrimination at work, and on the experiences of migrant workers. She is undertaking a PhD on the intersection of gender and sexuality in non-traditionally female work.
