TU seminar Across the divide

In drawing upon a decade of research into the outsourcing and offshoring of call centres and business services to India, Phil Taylor will challenge several common myths surrounding globalisation. Focusing on political economy, the strategy of multinational corporations and employment relations in India and the UK, Phil will conclude by assessing the recent attempts made to organise Indian call centre and business process employees.

Phil Taylor is Professor of Work and Employment Studies, University of Strathclyde. He has researched call centres for more than a decade, particularly focusing on work organisation, employment relations and the experience of work. Recently he has completed several studies on the offshoring of business processses to India. His other research interests include occupational health and safety, privatisation and trade union organising. Phil will be accompanied by Ciaran Naidoo, who is Press Officer for UNITE.
