Professor John Kirk dies, aged 53

Professor John Kirk died on November 3 aged 53 after a long battle against a brain tumour. His keen intellect, socialist commitment and personal warmth are deeply missed. A meeting on ‘Class and Identity in Today’s Europe’ is taking place in his memory on Thursday March 31 at 5pm at the Women’s Library, London Metropolitan University, 25 Old Castle Street London E1 7NT, followed by a book launch of his latest joint-authored book, ‘Work and Identity’. CAMS Report

Acas has just published a research paper prepared by an EU DG Employment funded project on European trends in individual and collective conflict conciliation. The project was coordinated by the WLRI who also carried out the research in the UK and in France. Read more here.

WRLI completes evaluation of PCS Equality Rep project

The Working Lives Research Institute has just completed an evaluation of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union’s Equality Representatives’ Training, Development & Support Programme, which found that the project had increased the number and profile of Equality Reps (ERs) within the union and provided a stronger and clearer equality agenda for the PCS. Trade union recognition in the independent healthcare sector

At a seminar held on Tuesday 13 July 2010, around 40 regional officers of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) were presented with a summary of two pieces of research conducted by WLRI researchers for the RCN.

Allan Williams, together with Gareth Shaw and Adrian Bailey from the University of Exeter, has been awarded a grant of £2,150 from ESRC's Advanced Institute of Management to hold a capacity building workshop on April 28th for early career researchers on the theme of innovation in the tourism and hospitality industries. Images of Working Lives: Experiences of Kurdish migrants in London

Images of working lives is an exhibition held as part of an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded research project conducted by Working Lives Research Institute, London Metropolitan University to highlight the working conditions of an ‘invisible’ community, Kurdish Diaspora, in London.
