The first intake of students started the Professional Doctorate in Researching Work yesterday, Thursday 28 January, at Working Lives.
Fifteen students – from a broad range of backgrounds, from trade union officers, health and probation professionals, IT specialists and consultants – began the taught DProf with lectures, seminars and introductions to the WLRI team.
Dr Sian Moore, Deputy Director of Working Lives and Course Leader, said:
“The launch of the DProf exceeded our expectations in bringing together a group of students from a wide range of backgrounds, in terms of work and activism, with a real enthusiasm for developing their personal, academic and professional interest in researching work. The breadth of experience that they bring to the Institute suggests that this is going to be a really exciting departure for Working Lives.”
The Working Lives DProf encourages students to reflect and draw upon their professional experience, to develop a theoretical approach and their practical research skills. Studied part time, it is delivered flexibly to fit around the students working lives.
See here for more info, but please note that intake for January 2010 is now closed.
