NEW published article by Jennifer Akinsuyi (WLRI Professional Doctorate student)

Over the course of my career as an IT consultant in the UK Financial Services Industry. I have realised that it takes more than just qualifications and experience to succeed.
Other attributes need to be taken into account, specifically for women working in male dominated corporations.

Britain at Work, Voices from the Workplace 1945-95

Britain at Work, Voices from the Workplace 1945-95 is a nationwide oral history programme set up by historians, social scientists, community history groups and librarians of labour history collections. Led by the TUC Library Collections at London Metropolitan University, it aims to collect memories of the working lives of men and women 1945- 95. This includes accounts of their work and their trade union activities. It will act as an umbrella for an increasing number of local, regional or sectoral oral history projects.

Partnership with ACAS to investigate multiple discrimination in the workplace


WLRI has succeeded in gaining funding through the Acas Research Partnership programme to investigate the experiences of trade union Equality Reps in addressing discrimination in the workplace on multiple grounds.

WLRI to investigate social regulations between contractors and subcontractors during restructuring

The WLRI is the UK partner in a new five-country year-long project starting in January 2011 that is led by the French National Agency for Improving Working Conditions (ANACT) to investigate the 'social regulation between contractors and subcontractors in the industrial sector during restructuring'.

Regulation and Enforcement of Posted Workers Employment Rights (PostER) 

The Lindsey dispute in 2009 catapulted the issue of posted workers to the fore in the UK, while the European judgments on Viking, Laval and Ruffert have highlighted the limitations of the Posted Workers Directive.

Responses to Forced Labour in the EU 

A team of researchers from EU eight countries, led by WLRI, have been successful in a bid to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) to conduct a six-month study which will focus on national policy and practical responses to forced labour across the European Union.
