Max studied in Manchester and London, then went to work Palestine in 2004 to work as Assistant Editor of News from Within, a monthly, political journal produced by the Alternative Information Centre. He stayed for a year in Palestine, during which time he also worked as English language editor for the International Peace and Cooperation Centre and co-founded the website 'Bethlehem Bloggers'. He then worked voluntarily on the editorial board of Palestine News for over a year, writing and editing articles for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. His writing on Palestine was also published in Red Pepper magazine and the Electronic Intifada website, among others, and he edited the Summer 2006 edition of Palestine News (pdf).
Max joined WLRI in February 2006 and completed his Master of Research (MRes) in Labour and Trade Union Studies in September 2008. Max then began researching for the Unison Migrant Workers Participation Project and has since then worked on two more UNISON research projects; assessing an Equality Reps pilot training scheme, and the Hidden Workforce project. In December 2010, he began working part time as Leverhulme Research Fellow, studying UK trade union recognition awards between 2000-2008.
Max also manages the content of this website, particularly keeping up to date the News section. In February 2009, Max launched the WLRI ‘E-zine’/ newsletter, a regular summary of our news and events sent straight to your inbox.
Max is Chairperson of the London Metropolitan University UNISON branch, and since November 2010, was elected onto UNISON NEC and keeps a blog here:

Max is also an enthusiastic supporter of utilising 'new media' for campaigning and research dissemination - from Youtube, to podcasts and blogs (see here for a short film made in January 2010 on the TUC 'Lights Camera Aciton' course, or watch another film he made for the the London Met UNISON branch. He is also a keen cyclist, and a member of the London Cycling Campaign.
