Bridget took a degree in American Studies at Manchester, including modules on American labour history and a year of study in the US. After graduation she worked in print production before training as a journalist. She was an editor and journalist at the Transport and General Workers Union for 12 years, editing the Landworker, the union’s journal for rural and agricultural workers, undertaking press and campaign work and writing for other union publications.
In May 2002 Bridget joined Industrial Relations Services as a researcher for Pay and Benefits Bulletin. She has also worked on a number of research and media projects, including research into merit pay, disability and employment, and union campaigns.
Bridget has written on and researched employment and social issues, with a particular interest in equality and discrimination issues, and on the industrial and social problems affecting workers in rural areas. Recent areas of research have included equal pay, bonuses, and pensions.
At IRS she had specific responsibility for monitoring construction, manufacturing and the hospitality sector, before moving to focus on the retail sector and the NHS.
