Frances Tomlinson

Background/Career

Frances began her career in the National Health Service, working in administration, personnel and training. During her time at London Metropolitan University she has taught modules including organisational behaviour, applied psychology, managing people, organisational theory, research methods and interpersonal skills on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. She currently specialises in teaching cross-cultural management and critical perspectives in organisational theory and managerial psychology. She also works with the Refugee Assessment and Guidance Unit (RAGU) on the development and teaching of management courses for refugees and refugee organisations.

Research interests

Frances’s current research interests centre on issues of identity, diversity and organising practices. She was a member of the WLRI team that recently completed a study of the employment trajectories for refugee women - from volunteers to paid employees, funded by the London Development Agency and European Social Fund Objective 3 co-financing programme. Other current projects include the acculturation and adjustment of international postgraduate students and diversity management in the voluntary sector.
