
Research Fellow
Alison joined WLRI in 2004 initially as a Senior Research Administrator, co-ordinating the research support function at WLRI and managing the institute’s website. She was employed as a Research Fellow in 2005 and worked on three projects; Age Discrimination Against Older Women: The experience of labour market and wider barriers to employment participation (European Social Fund), An Examination of the Changing Needs and Aspirations of Seafarers and of the Response of the Maritime Charities (Maritime Charities Funding Group) and Work Organisation and Restructuring in the Knowledge Society (European Union).
Alison’s research interests focus on the urban environment and city life including: urban cultures, regeneration and community change, social inclusion, space, place and the built environment, and creative and cultural industries. Broader interests include identity, gender, and social and cultural history. As a practicing visual artist working largely with the medium of photography, she is interested in combining visual practice with research and exploring visual methodologies in her work.
