Background/Career

Richard’s research work began in the early 1980s at the Ethical Investment Research and Information Service and then the Pensions Investment Resource Centre both of which focussed on socially responsible investment. He then joined the Labour Research Department where he worked for 17 years with his main areas of research being pensions and privatisation. During his time there he was editor of the negotiators’ magazine Workplace Report and then later during his last year of Labour Research. Richard went on to work for the EPSU public services union federation in Brussels during 2004 and continues to carry out research for them on a part-time basis. Richard’s main responsibilities at Working Lives will be to develop European projects and work on the Pique project which is examining the impact of privatisation and liberalisation on employment, productivity and quality of service in electricity, health, transport and postal services.
