Background/Career

Yilmaz has come to WLRI from Anadolu University in Eskisehir, Turkey where he’s been working as an Assistant Professor of Economics since 2005 and teaching econometrics and economics courses to both undergraduate and graduate students. After getting his B.S. in Economics from Anadolu University in 1993, he moved to Boston, US to continue his graduate study at Northeastern University with the scholarship from Turkish Government. He returned to Turkey in 1997 and started to work as a research assistant at the department of economics of Afyon Kocatepe University in Afyon Turkey. He, then, was accepted to the Ph.D. program in Economics at the Middle East Technical University in 1998. From 1999 to 2005, he worked as a research assistant at the department of Economics while he was doing his Ph.D.

Research Interests

In his works, Yilmaz, as an economist, usually employs statistical tools to explore the issues of economic development such as productivity, technology, manufacturing industry and labour markets. Yilmaz’s current research interest includes “Privatisation productivity and labour markets, productivity and efficiency in manufacturing, industrial structure and economic development, labour markets and economic performance.
